SereyRoth CHEA

CHEA Sereyroth was born in 1990 and studied painting at Phare Ponleu Selpak in 2005. In 2008, he attended a workshop under the theme "The Memory of Khmer Rouge in Cambodia" at the Bophana Center in Phnom Penh. After graduating from Battambang Institute of Technology (BIT) in 2012, he began working as a graphic designer at Sonleuk Thmey Studio in Phare Ponleu Selpak and soon after became graphic design teacher at Phare Visual and Applied Arts School (VAAS). He participated in many art exhibitions including ‘SPOT ART’, an international art festival for artists under 30 years old in Singapore in 2013. In 2014, he did a solo exhibition named "Disaster" in Phnom Penh's Romeet Gallery, where his paintings were meant to be a cautionary tale relating to the neglect of the environment. In the last years, his exhibition "Ricefield Mirages" shown at Battambang's Sangker gallery and Phnom Penh's Sa Sa Art Projects, explored the relationship between the urbanized and the rural and invited viewers to look at the agricultural community not as an ‘Other’ but in a more intimate and humanized manner.
