Touch KHCHAO

Touch KHCHAO was born in Battambang in 1982 and studied at Phare Ponleu Selpak from 1998 to 2003. She then became a teacher there until 2008 and left to pursue her own artistic career. Since then she has exhibited her work actively throughout Cambodia and traveled to France in 2007 where she was an artist in residence at ‘Atelier Fenêtre sure rue’ in Bordeaux, and to Long Beach, USA, in 2009 where she made an installation and residency at the 2nd City Gallery. Touch has benefited from great recognition through the years as she was nominated for the Sovereign Asia Art Prize 2009 and 2020, the “You Khin Memorial Women’s Art Prize 2010, she won the Silver prize in the White Canvas Art competition in 2020, and was also listed in South East Asia Globe magazine’s top 10 Cambodian artists feature. In 2013 she opened the Lotus Gallery in Battambang and has been Artist in residence there since 2016. Her meditations on life and nature inspired Touch to launch an art exhibition entitled “I am Nature?” at Mirage Contemporary Art Space, Siem Reap and she is currently having a retrospective exhibition running at The Pi Pet Pi 282 Gallery, Phnom Penh. Her mesmerizing paintings are designed to enhance viewers’ focus and prompt them to engage in compassionate self-reflection.
