The Alleyway Barber

2021
Museum Grade reprint on Hahnemühle German Etching 310gsm mould-made paper. Limited reprint. Tucked in a narrow lane off of Shing Wong Street, an old barbershop stands frozen in time. For six decades, behind the weathered shutters and under the pitched tin roof, the barber has hovered over his 1960s-era barber's chair, brandishing razors and scissors that were built to last. Many of his regulars have been with him since childhood. This painting is part of the ongoing series titled "Unspoken Stories, Unsung Heroes" - watercolor sketches paying tribute to the remarkable men and women who are keeping Hong Kong's fading traditional industries alive. With few or no successors left, most of these trades are believed to become history within this decade and disappear entirely with this generation of artisans and craftsmen.
