Wong’s Banana Stall
2020
Museum Grade reprint on Hahnemühle German Etching 310gsm mould-made paper. Limited reprint.
Amidst a bustling Mong Kok street market, toiling behind rows upon rows of guava, star fruit and an array of banana varieties, is a petite Mrs. Wong - a woman who recalls the early days of hawking from a bamboo carrying pole, and who takes profound pride in her local produce and the livelihood that she and her husband have built since 1972.
This painting is part of the ongoing series titled "Unspoken Stories, Unsung Heroes". Painted on location over the course of weeks, each piece brings to life real stories of (extra)ordinary people whose lifetime of devotion and dedication weaves into the rise of Hong Kong as well as the rich cultural heritage that makes Hong Kong so uniquely Hong Kong.
