Reprint Edition of "Dear Castle": My Dear Castle

2014

‘Dear Castle’ is a combination of cyanotypes and etching, two very important printmaking technique from the old time. Cyanotypes are one of the oldest photographic printing processes in the history of photography. The distinctive feature of the print is its shade of cyan blue, which results from its exposure to ultraviolet light. When the blue print emerged, cyanotypes were traditionally used for reproducing the technical drawings of architects and engineers until the arrival of photocopy machines.

Etching is traditionally the process of using strong acid or mordant to cut into the unprotected parts of a metal surface to create a design in intaglio in the metal. The artist had to get both process right to create a final piece, if one step failed, the whole progress has to start all over again.

‘My Dear Castle’ depicts a dedicated drawing of deer with a dreamy castle behind, the image portrays the typical folkloric scenery from the old children books. The flowers and plants surrounding the castle were collection from the artist’s plants library, whom she collected during her hikes all over the world.
