In a city marked by staggering wealth inequality and an aging population with limited means in getting by, this feeble, elderly ‘cardboard granny’ represents the thousands of others who tirelessly and silently rid our streets of waste cardboard, frequently seen wading strenuously through traffic and busy sidewalks behind heavily laden carts. Though a familiar sight, they are also painfully invisible in society.
